UNU-FLORES offers a doctoral programme with Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden) under the Joint Junior Researcher Programme (JJRP). This programme builds on the Joint PhD Programme in Integrated Management of Water, Soil, and Waste with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and extends scientific cooperation to all faculties at TU Dresden that engage with research themes related to the Resource Nexus. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to conduct research for a doctoral thesis on advancing a Resource Nexus approach on the sustainable management of environmental resources under the guidance of experts at UNU-FLORES and TU Dresden. Selected doctoral candidates will enrol at TU Dresden. Upon completion of the doctoral dissertation, early-career scientists will be able to apply the Resource Nexus approach in the sustainable management of resources that are of concern to the United Nations and its Member States, particularly in countries of the Global South.

Note: The applicant needs a final master’s grade of 2.5 or better (German grading system) to meet the minimum requirement of a successful application. The Joint Junior Researcher Programme includes two mandatory courses on the Resource Nexus. Students will learn the basic concepts of the Resource Nexus and important aspects of Governance and Capacity Development which will help improve the skills necessary to conduct their research. In addition, students have the opportunity to take courses at the Graduate Academy of TU Dresden. Courses and workshops offered in the framework of the Graduate Academy are of short duration (typically 1–2 days) and without credits.
