Annual Meeting of the Soil Science Society of Switzerland and the German Soil Science Society

  • DATE / TIME:
    2019/08/26 - 2019/08/28
    Bern, Switzerland

Co-Organisers: Soil Science Society of Switzerland, German Soil Science Society

This year’s annual meeting of German and Swiss Soil Science Societies is taking place under the theme “Soil-Richness and Soil-Landscapes”. Experts from these (and other) countries will meet, present, and discuss their current research/hot topics in the areas of soil physics, chemistry, ecology, and many more areas related to soil science.

At the 2019 Annual Meeting, UNU-FLORES PhD researchers will give the following presentations in the session “Soil structure and Soil Functions: Soil Stability and Management (K I S1.1)” from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in Hall 220 on 26 August 2019. The presentations will be as follows:

    • “Changes in Soil Pore Space during a Winter Wheat Growing Season under Different Soil Tillage Systems” by Janis Kreiselmeier
    • “Temporal Dynamics of Soil Structural Pore Space in Response to Agricultural Management Practices” by Parvathy Chandrasekhar
    • “Effect of Long-Term Conservation Agriculture on Soil Hydraulic Properties under Intensive Cereal-Based Cropping Systems” by Sridhar Patra

On 28 August 2019, Dr Kai Schwärzel will give the presentation “Soil Hydrology of Dryland Afforestation ” in the session “Water, Gas, and Solute Transport I” from 2:00 to 4:00 Hall 220.

The overall intent of the event is for soil scientists to meet and debate current developments in soil science.

Besides the Geographical Institute of the University of Bern and the University of Basel, the following institutions will host the conferece: l’Université Lausanne, the University of Zurich, the University of Applied Sciences for Agriculture, Forestry and Nutrition Technology (HAFL), the Agroscope, the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL), the special department for soil protection in Zurich, the administration of Agriculture and Nature (LANAT), pro natura, and the Federal Office of Agriculture (BLW).
