Multifunctional Land-Use Systems for Managing the Nexus of Environmental Resources (MuLu)
- PROJECT STATUS :
- Closed
Dr Lulu Zhang and Parvathy Chandrasekhar, from UNU-FLORES Soil and Land Management Unit, will present in the Session “Soil and Water Management in a Changing Environment” at the European Society for Soil Conservation (ESSC)International Conference on ‘Soil and Water Security: Challenges for the next 30 years’.
Dr Zhang give a talk on on environmental restoration impacts and challenges on soil and water security. She will show evidence that policy to restore one resource, such as soil, can produce unwanted trade-offs for another resource, such as water, if cross-sectoral interaction and impacts are not taken into full consideration. To improve and build synthesis in soil and water security, she makes suggestions for shaping a more multifunctional land-use system by leveraging knowledge and finance, and creating an enabling policy environment for adaptation.
Ms Chandreskhar will present on “Modelling the temporal dynamics of soil hydraulic properties due to agricultural management practices”.
This conference is being held to celebrate the European Society for Soil Conservation (ESSC) 30 years of activities and identify the key areas of focus for the next 30 years. The conference is open to soil scientists, educators, and policymakers. It will consist of invited lectures, scientific sessions with oral and poster presentations, and will be subdivided into four main topics.
