World Water Week is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues. Experts, practitioners, decision-makers, business innovators, and young professionals from a range of sectors and countries come to Stockholm to network, exchange ideas, foster new thinking, and develop solutions to the most-pressing water-related challenges of today.

This year’s programme will address the theme “water and waste — reduce and reuse”. It focuses on a key challenge for which two Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have set ambitious targets:

    • Goal 6.3: “By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally”
    • Goal 12.5: “By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse”

At World Water Week 2017, two UNU institutes — the UNU Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES) and the UNU Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) — will co-organise seminars to address the wastewater challenge:
