Since 2015 the Sustainable Development Goals define the new paradigm of the international community. The expectation is to obtain a more sustainable global society by 2030. Sustainability needs to be achieved by building on environmental, economic as well as social well-being. They are inextricably linked to each other. This lecture will explain the history of how the global community arrived at the SDGs and gives a glimpse into the particular process of arriving at a particular goal on water.
