    The event recognises the efforts of different aspects of society to raise awareness and contribute to environmental sectors such as climate protection, resource conservation, circular economy, and regional value creation.

    During the eku Future Prize Award Ceremony, UNU-FLORES Advocacy & Public Affairs Officer, Atiqah Fairuz Salleh, joins as a recipient of the eku Prize idee as part of the “eku Future Prize for Energy, Climate, Environment in Saxony” under the category Science. The project Flexible Office Concept for Resource Optimisation won a grant of 2,500 euros among a total of 193 entries submitted.

    UNU-FLORES is also recipient of the eku Prize erfolg as part of the “eku Future Prize for Energy, Climate, Environment in Saxony” under the category Science. The Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC) 2020, a joint effort of UNU-FLORES (led by Prof. Edeltraud Guenther), Technische Universität Dresden (led by Prof. Lars Bernhard), and Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (led by Prof. Marc Wolfram), won a grant of 5,000 euros among a total of 63 entries submitted for the successful transformation of DNC 2020 from an in-person conference into an online one.


    Background

    With the eku Future Prize 2021, the Saxon State Ministry for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture (SMEKUL) wants to support and make visible the diverse engagement of people in Saxony and support communication with and between different actors at all levels.

    The application deadline for the eku 2021 award ended on 23 July 2021. In total, 256 applications were received, which were reviewed and evaluated by a panel of experts in a multi-stage process. They were assessed according to the following criteria: Environmental and climate protection effects, innovative character, model character and exemplary effect, regionality and strengthening of regional value chains, social and economic effects, cooperation and project planning.

    All prize winners of the eku Future Prize 2021 will receive a certificate and a prize winner logo in addition to the prize money. On 9 May 2022, the successful projects of the eku 2021 will be presented at a public award ceremony in Leipzig.
