This seminar will look at water resource management options in an international context. Prof. Haberkamp will discuss how the reuse of water for agricultural irrigation has been a long-established practice in many arid regions of the world. However, in addition to adequate wastewater treatment, additional safeguards and effective control mechanisms are required to eliminate potential risks to users and consumers of agricultural products. Even in water-rich countries such as Germany, water reuse can – given the seasonal effects of climate change – gain in relevance, which viewers will hear from Prof. Peter Krebs.
Although awareness of sustainability has now reached wastewater treatment, evaluation systems are still lacking. UNU-FLORES Expert Dr Serena Caucci will highlight the discussions on water in an international context.
