Business researchers worldwide are increasingly paying attention to grand societal challenges, from the worldwide economic crisis triggered by the COVID–19 pandemic, extending to fundamental issues like global systemic competition, demographic ageing, shortage of skilled workers, decarbonisation and digital transformation.

There is a pressing need for business research to provide an academic conceptualisation on how policy and practice approaches in firms must change to address these challenges.

During the session “Sustainability Reporting: Concepts, Emerging Standards, and the Role of Academia” on 10 March, Prof. Guenther will contribute with her presentation entitled “Conceptual foundations – What is ‘Sustainability’?”.

An open discussion on “Implications for (Accounting) Academia” will follow the presentations.
