The webinar will focus on key building blocks of the Nexus Approach from biophysical, socioeconomic, and policy perspectives and offer an innovative forum for presenting and discussing cutting-edge experiences on testing nexus approaches in practice. The webinar aims to create a platform for exchanging good practice examples and success stories to encourage joint action and prepare the ground for further Nexus implementation that remains urgently needed.

The webinar is expected to be an inspiring occasion for the development community to be engaged in efficient and viable strategies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and to discuss the catalytic role of the Nexus Approach for the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

With the mission to advance the Nexus, UNU-FLORES – as a member of the Steering Committee of the Nexus Project Cluster – brings together actors from academia, civil society, industry, and governments to discuss the sustainable management of environmental resources via the Nexus Approach.

    Background

Under the theme of “Circular Economy in a Sustainable Society”, the Dresden Nexus Conference 2020 (DNC2020) dwelled on the question: How can the sustainable use of environmental resources be better achieved through principles of the circular economy and what role does the Nexus Approach play?

Following the discussion initiated at DNC2020, the webinar will offer an innovative forum for presenting and discussing cutting-edge experiences on testing nexus approaches in practices, identify factors that establish successful nexus-compliant decision-making, and explore gaps in the current understanding.

In this way, the webinar aims to find a few examples of the successful identification and implementation of nexus practices. The ambition of the webinar is to provide a forward-looking approach to bring more focus and coherence to the knowledge activities arising at the science-policy interface.
