World Water Day is celebrated every year on 22 March to draw attention to the importance of water for humankind and our planet. This year’s World Water Day theme is ‘Nature for Water’ — a theme echoed in the UN World Water Development Report 2018, launched this week during the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia, Brazil. The report highlights that “sustainable water security will not be achieved through business-as-usual approaches”. Water management must increase the use of nature-based solutions “to work with nature instead of against it.”
