Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNU, MCT and UEM

    A high-level delegation from Mozambique, headed by the Hon. Minister of Science and Technology (MCT), Prof. Louis Pelembe and consisting amongst others of the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of the University Eduardo Mondlane (UEM), Prof. Ana Mondjana as well as the Deans of the faculties of Agronomy and Forestry Engineering, Prof. Emilío Tostão, and of the faculty of Engineering, Prof. Alberto Tsamba, participated in the Opening Ceremony of UNU-FLORES on 10 December 2012.

    On the occasion of this event a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MCT, UEM and UNU was signed. In the MoU the parties agree to cooperate in preparing the establishment of a Twin Insitute of UNU-FLORES in Maputo, Mozambique. This Twin Institute is supposed to cooperate closely with UNU-FLORES, Dresden both in research and teaching. It shall build on close relations with UEM, but also with other African universities and organizations working on related topics to fulfill its envisioned role as regional hub for the sustainable management of the environmental resources water, soil and waste. Details of this cooperation were discussed in a workshop which took place after the Opening Ceremony. A working group was established to be responsible for the implementation of the start-up phase of UNU-FLORES, Maputo.
