During the past year UNU-FLORES has seen many accomplishments and great opportunities. We launched new initiatives and ventured into new partnerships. For such a fruitful 2016, we thank you for your every support! Moving forward into 2017, we have an exciting line-up waiting for you.

    New Year, New Look

While we hope our current website has served you adequately, we have been working very hard to build a new website that will be more dynamic, informative, and refreshing. Other than a major overhaul in the web design, the functions will also expand to give you a deeper insight into the development of our projects, for example. Look forward to great new features and holistically, an even more pleasant user experience.

    Research

As we usher in the New Year, various outputs from a number of projects are on the horizon. One of the first books to give a general overview of the Chinese land policy development and implementation will be published. This joint book project is the result of our cooperation with our partners in China. The book seeks to introduce new concepts for land policy reform and more sustainable land-use systems for dryland environments.

As part of the project under the TIGER initiative, we will also be launching a practical guide for remote sensing of water use and water stress in African savannas. This is envisioned to be an instructive manual for local stakeholders to apply Earth Observation technology and tools for better disaster management.

    Flying the Nexus Flag

We raised the flag of the nexus with the inaugural Dresden Nexus Conference (DNC) two years ago. Bringing together actors who apply a Nexus Approach to resource management, this event is set to establish itself as a nexus hub in advancing the sustainable development agenda.

socialmedia_parallelsessions_earlybird_twitterThis year, the biennial conference is back in May with the theme “Sustainable Development Goals and the Nexus Approach: Monitoring and Implementation”. DNC2017 promises a stimulating line-up of speakers and sessions. Early bird registration for the conference is open till 28 February.

2017 is set to be a thrilling year ahead for UNU-FLORES as we journey into our fifth year anniversary. For continual updates, subscribe to our free quarterly NexNews and follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
