Following the signing of a cooperation agreement in 2013, representatives of the Leibniz Institute for Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) and UNU-FLORES discussed and planned the ongoing cooperation between the two Dresden-based institutes during a joint workshop in February.
One of the ongoing joint projects is the organization of the Dresden Nexus Conference in early 2015 together with TU Dresden and other partners. The conference will focus on the connections between global change, the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the nexus approach.

“The cooperation between UNU-FLORES and IOER possesses a lot of potential, as we are both following many common research questions,” said the Director of IOER, Prof. Bernhard Müller. Among those joint research interests are for example environmentally appropriate development of cities and regions, sustainable use of resources and the impacts of climate and demographic change.
Concrete topics for further cooperation were also discussed. Among them is the management of minerals as well as flux analysis and data visualization. In the following weeks, researchers from both institutes will develop concepts to implement the cooperation. This will include joint research projects, content for the envisioned PhD program and joint publications. Further joint activities are also already implemented, such as the participation of IOER in the upcoming Nexus Observatory Workshop in Brazil on water quality and public health.
