2013/11/13 Berlin, Germany
On 28-29 November 2013, the Berlin2013 Policy Forum “Realizing the Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus”, took place in Berlin/Germany. The forum was hosted by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in coordination with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and organized by the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
On the 29th, the Director of UNU-FLORES, Prof. Reza Ardakanian, contributed to a regional roundtable that debated the land use and security of tenure/value ecosystems in Sub-Saharan Africa. The panel provided answers on how to increase cross-sectoral policy coherence, how to make better use of the nexus perspective in the regional context, and on what new ideas are being discussed in the context of promoting the cross-sectoral perspective at regional level.
The Berlin2013 Policy Forum was one in a series of nexus dialogues which emanated from the Bonn2011 Nexus-Conference. Around 100 international participants from national governments, the scientific community, organisations and NGOs, public sector agencies as well as planning agencies and the private sector discussed various aspects of the nexus approach, with a special focus on regional cooperation.
