On October 8th, the Rector of the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), Prof. Dr. H. Müller-Steinhagen, and the Scientific Managing Director of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Prof. Dr. G. Teutsch, signed the cooperation agreement for the establishment of the Center for Advanced Water Research (CAWR). The new center will address the global problems concerning integrated water resources management.

The ceremony was attended by UNU-FLORES, and the Director of the institute, Dr. Reza Ardakanian, was one of three speakers welcoming CAWR to the scientific community. Dr Ardakanian congratulated TUD and UFZ on the establishment of the center and pointed out several avenues for future cooperation between the new center and UNU-FLORES:
“We will be happy to continue and even intensify the existing cooperation with TUD and UFZ within the framework of CAWR, whose main focus is very close to our mandate and core of activities.”

This proximity of approaches was also evident in the statement of the Rector of TUD, Professor Hans Müller-Steinhagen: “Complex problems cannot be addressed using single solutions. Hand in hand with the most important partners in the field of water research and sustainable development we will make our scientific competences available to strategically develop training and successfully transfer our knowledge to practice, policy-making and society both at the national and international level.”
