On 23 May 2014 UNU-FLORES welcomed H.E. Ambassador Harald Braun, Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations, to its office at the World Trade Centre Dresden. During his visit, Ambassador Braun met with Director, Prof. Dr. Reza Ardakanian and staff at UNU-FLORES to learn more about the research activities and recent initiatives. The meeting provided an opportunity to share progress made on research and implementation of the nexus of water, soil and waste.In his opening remarks, Ambassador Braun acknowledged the need for water management among the growing population and expressed favourable support for an integrated approach to handling environmental resources, particularly through academic means. He commended the diverse and dynamic UNU-FLORES team as well as the institute’s network and partnership with TU Dresden. Ambassador Braun also underscored the value of UNU-FLORES goals in research, capacity development and governance, and was confident of its future as a viable institution to the UN and member states for developing strategies and solutions to the sustainable use and management of environmental resources.
